The smaller granulation, #220 grit side is quite rough, and therefore suitable only for repairing damaged or extremely dull blades. #1000 grit is the most general and widely used granulation for sharpening knives, and paired with the finer #6000 grit included in the set, it will give your edge that extra edge.
